Intro

Hello Members, Supporters, and Moviegoers,

I am overjoyed to announce that through the generosity of community donors, an online auction, and a foundation grant, we were able to meet this year’s mortgage payment one month ahead of time. THANK YOU to everyone in the community who donated to keep the doors open. And an extra special thank you to Jenny Clark for the magnificent design of the 10 foot mortgage thermometer hanging in our lobby and to the co-chairs of the auction committee Carol Saginaw and Beth Laster-Nathan for the tremendous amount of work to make the auction such a success.

As a way of saying thank-you, the Triplex invites the entire community to come join us in the lobby on Saturday, July 27th from 5-7pm to help celebrate our one-year anniversary of the purchase of the Cinema. There will be music, free wine and hors d’oeuvres.

Also, that evening, there will be a large rendering of what Theater 2 will look like when it is transformed from being the raw space that it is now into a beautiful new state of the art theater.  Thanks to the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund the Triplex was just awarded a $200k restricted grant to restore Theater 2. We’re expecting to begin the renovation in the fall with the hopes of having it finished in time for the holidays.

We will also be launching a seat campaign that same evening. The Triplex will have two new theater seats on display in the lobby for people to see or test what they are like. People will be able to buy a seat with their name or a loved one’s name on a brass plate that will be attached to the seat.

Pride/Scnall

In other news, June was another wonderful month for the community at the Triplex. Starting with hosting the Berkshire International Film Festival and continuing with our Pride Celebration, which included several films and talkbacks. We were excited to welcome Eric Schnall, whose book, I Make Envy on your Disco, was chosen as one of the five best new LGBTQ+ books by the Washington Post. Eric was also the Tony award winner pf the Broadway revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and was interviewed by Bobby Houston, owner of Scout and an Academy Award winner himself. For all of us who were there, it was a fascinating conversation and an outstanding event at the Triplex.

Wright/DDay

Bill Wright's Vets on display in The Triplex lobby.
In addition, in June, we had two free events; our D-Day Commemoration sponsored by Herrington’s, offered two films, The Best Years of Our Lives, and Saving Private Ryan, a Q and A with Agent Tom Beasley of the Southern Berkshire District Department of Veteran Services, and an outstanding photo display of Veterans by photographer Bill Wright.

Plastic

We also showed the first film in our Summer Environmental Film Series We are All Plastic People Now followed by a talkback with Jenny Gitliitz, Director of Solutions to Plastic Pollution and Stephanie Blumenthal, the Chair of the Triplex Environmental Committee.  Stephanie organized the local grocery stores; Big Y, Guidos, Price Chopper, the Berkshire Co-op and the Refill store to display environmentally friendly products in our lobby for the evening.
