Dear Members, Supporters and Moviegoers,

Saturday, March 2nd was a memorable day for the Triplex! Our sold-out showing of the documentary “I Am a Noise” and talkback with the legendary Joan Baez and the directors, Miri Navasky and Karen O’Connor, was a true gift to the Triplex audience and the community.

After the showing of the deeply personal documentary, Baez, Navasky and O’Connor were

interviewed by Sarah LaDuke from WAMC and the audience was able to ask questions. Extremely open, funny and original in her answers, Joan Baez was as genuine in her remarks as she has been throughout her life.

Many people came from great distances for this event. The young man sitting next to me had driven from the Vermont/Canadian border and the couple behind me had come from Washington DC. It was truly a banner day for the Triplex and one we will remember for a long time to come.

On March 16th we are very excited to welcome noted author and critic Philip Gefter to the Triplex to discuss his new book “Cocktails with George and Martha” after the 3 pm screening of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”  There will be a book signing immediately following the talkback in the lobby along with signature cocktails “George” and “Martha” The Bookloft will be providing the books.

Gefter, who was the longtime picture editor and photography critic for the New York Times and has written critically acclaimed biographies of Richard Avedon and curator Sam Wagstaff, also produced the beloved documentary “Bill Cunningham: New York.” Gefter was honored in January by MoMA in NYC following a showing of the film and a discussion of his new book.

Lisa Schwartzbaum, the former Film critic for Entertainment Weekly magazine for many years and who continues to write for the New York Times, Time, and Slate, will join Gefter for the talkback. Don’t miss this chance to hear a brilliant discussion about one of the most iconic films of all time and the opportunity to buy a book about it. Tickets are $25.

Finishing out the month of March, on the 26th, the Triplex is pleased to welcome Boondocks Film Society, who put on one-of-a kind events in the most interesting venues in the Litchfield Hills, Hudson Valley and Berkshires, mixing critically acclaimed films with drinks, food, art and music. In collaboration with the Triplex and Josh Irwin (the owner of the soon-to-open Juju’s adjoining the Triplex), Boondocks will be presenting “Chungking Express”.  This will be an immersive experience. Another event not to be missed!

In an ongoing effort to raise money for the Triplex, we will be hosting a special online auction in April with unique and truly spectacular items. If anyone has anything that they think might further enhance our auction, please let me know at nicki@thetriplex.org. There will be more information about the auction coming in this newsletter in April. On another note, if anyone would like to help us cover our ongoing expenses, here at the Triplex, please visit our website at thetriplex.org and press DONATE.

In closing, we received amazing news last week that the Triplex received a $25,000 grant from the Feigenbaum Foundation to buy equipment for the theater. We are ecstatic about this grant as it will enable us to purchase some of the film equipment that is greatly in need of replacement. The Feigenbaum Foundation was started by the Feigenbaum brothers in 1988 for the express purpose to focus its financial assistance on community nonprofit organizations in the Berkshires. The Founders’ intention was to bring the greatest good to the largest number of people in the Berkshires. We greatly appreciate the foresight of the Feigenbaums in enriching all of our lives in Berkshire County now and for years to come.

With gratitude,

Nicki Wilson
