Hello Members, Supporters, and Moviegoers,
As we celebrate the one-year anniversary of reopening the Triplex Cinema as a nonprofit movie
theater this month, we’re delighted to announce we have just sold our 500th membership to the
Cinema. Hallelujah! We’re so happy to see that the community is supporting the Cinema by
becoming members. Membership is the life blood of our theater’s existence.
In other exciting news, we were thrilled to welcome Bill Murray to the Triplex Cinema this past month. Before a sold-out audience, Mr. Murray delighted everyone with stories about his filmmaking career, as well as personal anecdotes from his life. Generous, introspective, funny, thoughtful, and kind, Mr. Murray gave a shout-out to audience members that he knew, with a special acknowledgement to Molly Cooper, a Triplex Board Member, whom he had worked with on several Wes Anderson films and who was responsible for his being at the Triplex.
Mr. Murray won the hearts of the audience when he said, "I love making movies. I love movie theaters. This is an experience that was created by the Greeks . . . it's something we're supposed to do together. You get a lot from other people in the way that one person is going to laugh at a joke, and you wonder 'why is that person laughing' . . . it's a mystery. . . which you might not get if you're on your couch. If you support your movie theater, I think it's a great thing." We couldn’t agree with him more!
In other events this October, we had a good turnout for our election season series Dying in Darkness: Journalism, Politics & Truth in Film, BIFF in partnership with the Triplex presented the environmental film Food Inc 2 and Berkshire Film and Media Collaborative’s Director Diane Pearlman, along with Director Adam Roffman, screened the film Made in Massachusetts.
We had a last-minute addition to our October lineup, when Tony Gerber, the co-director of War Game, did a Q & A after the film. War Game, an award winning 2024 documentary, shows a spellbinding simulation of what could happen if another January 6th insurrection took place. Gerber, having screened his documentary at independent movie theaters across the US, delivered an important message in his talkback about keeping independent cinemas alive and thriving, “independent cinemas are the beating heart of our democracy."
