Intro

Hello Members, Supporters, and Moviegoers,

Officially summer is not yet over, but when Labor Day weekend rolls around and kids go back to school and many of the second homeowners leave, our attention starts to shift to the fall. Before we leave summer behind though, I want to honor the Triplex’s terrific special events this summer.

We started June off with the Berkshire International Film Festival and then proceeded to show five films for Pride month with talkbacks, two free amazing environmental films “We’re All Plastic People Now” and “Into the Weeds” with great panels including our State Rep Carmine Gentile. We offered two free films for D Day, an all-day Music Inn Celebration, and three fascinating documentaries about true American originals - Bill Cunningham, Norman Mailer and Dory Previn.  Each with inspiring tailbacks by the filmmakers and/or the families of these individuals.

Big

Elizabeth Perkins, the co-star of the classic film “BIG,” was interviewed after the film in late August by Tom Levine, for what proved to be a truly illuminating interview. Elizabeth shared little known facts about the filming of “BIG” and about working with many of the Hollywood legends. Did you know that Robert DeNiro was originally supposed to play the Tom Hanks’s role and Debra Winger was supposed to play Elizabeth’s role? If you missed the interview, you’re in luck!  We recorded it and hope to get it up on our website by next month.

Patrick

Board President Nicki Wilson with Deval and Diane Patrick at the Red Lion Inn.
In other Triplex summer happenings, we had our first online auction to help raise money for our mortgage payment and we were thrilled when Former Governor Deval Patrick and the First Lady agreed to host a dinner for ten guests at the Red Lion Inn.  The dinner was generously donated by the Red Lion Inn.

Medley

We were equally thrilled when Dorinda Medley of “The Real Housewives of New York City,” graciously welcomed us to her iconic “Blue Stone Manor” in Great Barrington for a luncheon on her beautiful terrace overlooking the formal gardens.  The food was delicious and elegantly catered by Heidi and Joe Agostino of “Table and Fare” catering. Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely.

Ferraro

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Representative Nancy Pelosi, Senator Amy Klobuchar, and filmmaker Donna Zaccaro.
As the political season kicks into full gear, we are very happy to be presenting the documentary “Geraldine Ferraro: Paving the Way,” produced and directed by Ferraro’s daughter Donna Zaccaro on Sunday, September 15th.   Donna will be here in person with Letty Cottin Pogrebin for a talkback after the film. Donna is the Founder and President of Dazzling Media, a New York-based media production company. Letty is an author, activist, national public speaker, and a founding editor of Ms. Magazine.

Susan

We are proud to be showing the 1980’s classic film “Desperately Seeking Susan,” which stars Madonna and Rosanna Arquette, on Friday night, September 20th with the director of the film Susan Seidelman present to give a talk back after the screening.  Seidleman, who recently wrote a memoir “Desperately Seeking Something: A Memoir About Movies,” which traces her 40-year film career, will do a book signing in our lobby of her new book immediately following the talkback.  Rachel Syme, a staff writer for The New Yorker, who featured Seidelman in a recent New Yorker article, will be leading the talkback.

Dunne

Griffin Dunne's new memoir
On Saturday, the 21st, Griffin Dunne will be in our theater promoting his book “The Friday Afternoon Club,” which reached number 5 on the New York Times Best Seller list this summer. The book tells the story of his growing up in Hollywood and NYC and stories about his well-known relatives.   The afternoon with Griffin will begin at 4:30pm that day, with the showing of the film “Joan Didion: the Center Will Not Hold” that was produced and directed by Griffin.  Immediately after the screening, Griffin will do a talkback and then a book signing in the lobby that will be open to the public. After the book signing, Griffin will introduce the film “An American Werewolf in London” in which he stars.

In closing, I wish everyone a Happy Labor Day weekend and remember, we’re a community-run organization, so there’s no donation too small or too large. Let’s keep the Triplex going!

With gratitude,
