Rich Text
To celebrate the release of Maestro, The Triplex is bringing three movies featuring the music of Leonard Bernstein back to the big screen. Starting on December 15th, we'll have multiple showings of West Side Story and On the Town, film adaptations of two of Bernstein's stage musicals, and On the Waterfront, the only original film score he ever created.
Film director and educator Deborah Reinisch will join us for to intro West Side Story and On the Waterfront and lead post-show discussions following screenings of West Side Story and On the Waterfront on Wednesday, December 20th. She'll discuss the fascinating history of these two classic films and the role that Bernstein and his music played in bringing them to life.
And on Thursday, December 21st, at 2pm, we're joined by Julianne Boyd, the Founding Artistic Director of Barrington Stage Company, for a post-show discussion on the art of adaptation. She'll discuss the work it took to transform Bernstein and Jerome Robbin's ballet Fancy Free first into a successful stage musical and, later, this classic movie musical from Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen.
