At The Triplex, we strive to make every movie an event. And while we truly believe watching a movie in a theater is an experience like no other, one of the greatest joys of our first year as a nonprofit has been enhancing that experience with special events — unique moments you can’t replicate at home.

We’ve hosted stars like Karen Allen, Griffin Dunne, Elizabeth Perkins, David Rasche, and the Bill Murray for talkbacks about some of their most iconic roles. Rising talents, such as Maddie Weinstein from Between the Temples and Hillary Baack from Close to You, have also sat down with us, giving us a glimpse into the future of film.

Directors like Aaron Schimberg (A Different Man), Zia Anger (My First Film), Julia Greenberg (Dory Previn: On My Way to Where), and Tony Gerber (War Game) have shared not only their films but also the challenges they faced in bringing their visions to life. In an era overflowing with content, it’s easy to overlook the immense effort behind the art we consume, and giving a platform to these independent filmmakers is one of the things that we’re proudest of.

We’ve also used movies as a springboard to address issues affecting our community. We partnered with the Elizabeth Freeman Center to lead a discussion after Shayda, a powerful story about escaping domestic abuse. Following Sing Sing, a life affirming story set in a prison theater program, Shakespeare & Co.’s Kevin Coleman explored the transformative power of performance. And earlier this month, Rabbi Jodie Gordon from Hevreh helped unpack intergenerational trauma after a screening of A Real Pain.

These events allow our audience to connect with films on a deeper level — understanding not just why they were made but why they matter. More importantly, they create opportunities for us to come together, sparking conversations about why we love the movies and what they mean to us. And it’s that sense of community that makes these events so special.
